On October 30 in Washington, we expressed solidarity with the women of Iran and joined the signature of an open letter together with Hilary Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, Laura Bush, Christa Freeland and other leaders, on the exclusion of the Islamic Republic of Iran from the UN Commission on Women's Rights. It was a historic event - for the first time in the history of the UN.
"Today we are making the history. The United Nations and its countries member have heeded the call of Iranian women to expel the Islamic Republic of Iran from the UN Commission on the Status of Women, setting a new precedent for women and girls not only in Iran, but everywhere.
Today's vote marks a key step forward as UN member states expel a country with an appalling record on women's rights from the Commission." - says the letter from Vital Voices Global Partnership to those who supported and signed the open letter to the UNO.
